Invited by Duncan Richies of Unit.d, we created some new work under the title Plants & Elevations, a play on ‘plans and elevations’, and spent a week in the gallery during the first week of June, greeting visitors, selling objects and printing woodblock prints. Thank you to everyone who came to see the show and gave homes to some of our objects. The show has now closed but some items are still available from Unit.d online shop, take a look.

Unit.d is a design gallery newly founded by Duncan Riches in Haggerston, with recent shows include works by Michael Marriott and Jasper Morrison, Travel Things Museum and Andu Masebo, with future shows with Alexandra Gaber and Studio Mama. The gallery promotes design for everyday objects.

For this show, we presented a few wall things for home – Haiku is a device to display flower on the wall, particularly suited for a single stem. Tengu is a little wall plinth for small objects, meant to elevate what’s on the shelf. These are based on our recollection of ikebana device we’ve seen in antique market or old furniture in shrines and temples in Japan, as well as shaker’s candle holder and other wooden furniture.

This was a chance for us to use some interesting materials which would be too small for making furniture, waiting in our workshop corner. The size of items varies due to this, but the same peoduction process was applied.

To compliment the show, we also created some woodblock prints, each with plan and elevation view of shapes found in plants world. Also available is a set of mini photo prints of various plant shapes, bound with a string so that the prints can be hang on the wall.
