Time for Tea is a generous bench, initially made with 32mm thick planks of Douglas fir in 2019. Directly inspired from the beauty of the timber, this bench was outcome of simple desire to use solid wood as is, to celebrate the material and its strength.
Available also in different timbers (oak, sycamore pictured below), and as a lounge version (lower and wider) or dining version (higher and narrower) to be used with dining table.
Self produced by Mentsen to order. Get in touch for price and turn around timing.

Oak (UK grown), dining height, with raw edges
With oak and sycamore, the Time for Tea bench can be made with subtle raw edges on request, celebrating the rich character of materials within the clean architectural form.

from TV program 水戸黄門
Originally nicknamed TT bench for the structure of bench that creates two letter T forms, we decided to call the bench Time for Tea, remembering the generously proportioned benches outside the roadside tea houses seen in popular Japanese TV period dramas providing respites for tired legs as well as place for meetings. As the name suggests, its simple form and warmth of the material invite you to sit down and enjoy a little break.
