Inside Out

In Ultra Blue 264

Inside Out: furniture from the Crafts Council Collection was a partnership exhibition between Crafts Council Platform Gallery at Habitat.

Inside Out features 24 pieces from the Crafts Council’s Collection representing significant makers from four decades of the Collection. The earliest piece was Chair by Alan Peters OBE made in 1978 and the most recent Sarah Kay’s Helga chair from 2007 with work by Richard La-Trobe Bateman, Floris van den Broeke, Tom Dixon, Tomoko Azumi and Wales & Wales representing furniture through the 80s, 90s and the 2000s.

Mentsen were given a brief, which was to design the exhibition using the existing exhibition plinths the organisation already had from the previous shows. Our approach was to give a strong identity to the exhibition by simply applying single colour, and painted the pre-built display furniture in ultra marine blue. Little Greene kindly supported the project, and supplied their Ultra Blue 264, which required two different blue paints to achieve the absolute matte and deep blue.
